Steam downloads mod not in folder

Where are the mods placed when downloaded from Steam? What is the default folder? They are not placed inside an override folder and I  Steam makes it way easier for people to mod games. Sadly not all the mods go through steam, I had to download a Mount & Blade Warband mod yesterday
